The Hi-Q program provides a league for premier academic competition and is currently sponsored by New Horizons Credit Union and Mobile County Public School System. Academic teams from most or all of the mobile County public schools, each year starting in January and ending in April. Three teams, each comprised of 8-10 students, face each other in a game presided over by Mr. Bob Grip of WALA TV News, and three league officials afterwards. The top three teams end of the first series, play-offs, and championship games also win monetary and other prizes and honors for their achievement. The competitors are provided with a reference list covering the sixteen categories at the start of the fall term and are able to prepare for the competitions in advance.
